Coach Ernesto Ponce
At 15, Ernesto Ponce won the Mexican national tennis championship in the under-16 and under-18 divisions. While attending the University of Texas in 1995, he defeated Chad Clark, the number-one ranked NCAA division-one player in the U.S. In 1998, Ponce defeated Mariano Puerta, the number-one world junior player, in a semifinal match at the masters in Mexico. Most recently, in 2016, he won the men’s over-40 Canadian national championship.
As the men’s tennis coach at Tulane University, Ponce upped the team’s ranking from 65th to 11th in the U.S. He was also co-owner and high-performance director at Ace Tennis in Toronto, which, during Ponce’s tenure, was recognized as the top developmental centre in Canada. Additionally, he coached and managed several national championship players in Mexico, the U.S., and Canada.
Ponce earned a BA in business economics from the University of Texas and an MBA in entrepreneurship from Tulane University. He is also a certified yoga instructor, bio magnetic therapist, Thai massage therapist, and holistic life coach.
